As Strong as a Stone
Richard Babcock is a stone sculptor and uses sculpting to cope with his mental health. "Art has always been a passion of mine, something I have aspired to since my childhood. In my late teens I became mentally ill and struggled on the streets and in mental hospitals. I received disability payments after several years of illness and went back to college for Art Photography".
Art has always been a passion of mine, something I have aspired to since my childhood. In my late teens I became mentally ill and struggled on the streets and in mental hospitals. I received disability payments after several years of illness and went back to college for Art Photography. I also got involved in stone carving. Ever since graduating from Bradley University and pursing sculpture and photography, while on disability, I've had only a few brief stays in the mental hospital. With new medication I haven't been back since 2003. Art has been my core for my mind and soul to cling to, centering me in good times and bad. -Richard Babcock
