"Navigating Queer Pacific Waves" Art Show

Galería de la Raza is pleased to present Navigating Queer Pacific Waves, a group exhibition opening on Saturday, January 12, 2013, featuring new works by lead artist Jean Melesaine, Fuifuilupe Niumeitolu, Jorge Manuel Gonzales, Joy Enomoto, and additional collaborating artists.

" Navigating Queer Pacific Waves", a gallery exhibition that will explore the lives of queer Pacific Islanders. Artists Jean Melesaine, Fuifuilupe Niumeitolu, Jorge Gonzalez and collaborating artists will document the lives of 15-20 queer Pacific Islanders through art/photography. The histories of Western colonialisms erased our queer Pacific Islander histories that were once integral to our communities. It is one of the goals of this exhibition to reclaim and to retell these histories that have been silen ced by our European colonialists. It is our objective to reclaim queerness as an indigenous Pacific Islander value and epistemology that is central to the well-being of our communities.
