World renowned ‘break’ dancer, Raymond “NastyRay” Mora, presents the second installment of the highly acclaimed ‘break’ dance competition 1NFAMOUS. Mora, who has been featured in movies (Step Up 3D), on television (Dancing with the Stars), and has toured with Justin Bieber, says he expects this competition to be even larger than the previous event.
After being dismissed as fad in the late eighties, the hip hop dance form known as breakdancing or b-boying has come back into national prominence. In television, movies, and music videos the movements of the dance have recaptured the imagination of a new generation of dancers. Mora came up with an idea of battle that strips away all the mainstream artificiality and displays the true and most dynamic essence of the dance. “1NFAMOUS is about the passion and purity of the dance” says Mora.
Battle participants will compete in a series of 1 on 1 battles for a $500.00 cash prize. What separates 1NFAMOUS from other dance competitions is the emphasis on preserving the true culture of the dance with contestants being judged on their ability to perform acrobatic feats in time with music. To give the battle a world class feel, Mora has brought in one of the top DJ’s in the ‘break’ dance world (Lean Rock) to provide the musical backdrop. In the words of Mora, “1NFAMOUS is an attempt to return to the good old days of breaking when it was just about the dance.”
