ORGANIZING

Since De-Bug came together as a collective we have seen ourselves as protectors of each other and of our home: San José.  We helped build each other up and approached our organizing the way we approached doing all things together – with the belief that together we are stronger. Our organizing comes from moving together to make our lives better, our neighbors lives better and the personal transformation that happens in that process.

That’s why De-Bug campaigns cover so many issues - from worker’s rights, protecting immigrants, keeping local history alive, supporting families who lost loved ones to police violence - to the work we are most recognized for, now after more than 20 years - called Participatory Defense - a community organizing model that came out of our experiences in San Jose, CA to walk with families to become a part of the defense of their loved one who is facing charges or incarcerated and bring them home.

Police Accountability

An offering of love and power from San Jose, CA for families directly impacted by police violence. As movement leaders with Silicon Valley Debug, families have been organizing for changes in policing and procedures, and laws so no more families are impacted by police violence.

Stop the Jail Campaign

Families whose loved ones have suffered the conditions and culture of the Santa Clara County jails organized to resist the construction of an over $600 new jail where the inhuman culture of treating those detained pre-trial will continue. Learn more here to get involved!

Housing

De-Bug has worked around housing issues and with unhoused folks since nearly the beginning of our collective journey. Today we continue to fight for tenant rights, local housing policies and organize with families through our participatory defense housing meetings.

Racial Justice Act

De-Bug has been a long supporter of the Racial Justice Act, a California law prohibiting bias or discrimination in charging, conviction, and sentencing based on a defendant's race, ethnicity, or national origin by any court or system actors, including district attorneys, judges, cops or defense attorneys, addressing the historic issues of racism in the criminal justice system.

Legislation

From organizing in the courts and in our communities to advocating for legislative changes in the state capital, De-Bug has been a part of manny legislative efforts that would directly impact our people fighting for themselves and their loved ones.re families are impacted by police violence.

Immigration

De-Bug has long stood at the intersection of the criminal and immigration systems. We have supported families that are caught in that intersection and advocated for policy, both locally and state-wide, that protect families experiencing both police contact and at risk of deportation.
