Editor's note: Thin Blue Lie is a series telling the stories of families who experienced the systemic police practice of coercively interrogating families moments after killing their loved ones, in an attempt to gain evidence to justify the killing. AB 572 requires a peace officer, a prosecuting attorney, or an investigator for the prosecution, prior to interviewing a family member of a person who has been killed or seriously injured by a peace officer, to clearly identify themselves and provide the person with specified information. This information includes the status of their family member, that the person can consult with an attorney or trusted support person, and that the investigation may involve the culpability of the family member who was killed or injured.

Marco was killed by LASD in his driveway October 6th during a mental health crisis.
